Flat Footing Workshop
Thursday 05 August 2021 at 4:00 pm
Flat footing is the traditional percussive folk dance from the Appalachian mountain region of North America. Phoebe Ophelia Douthwaite began flat foot dancing 5 years ago and annually travels to North Carolina to learn more about the American folk dance scene and learnt from Ira Bernstein, Rodney Sutton and Matt Gordon, and The Green Grass Cloggers. She has taught percussive dance in the UK (Sidmouth Folk festival and Northern School of Contemporary Dance), USA Germany and Buenos Aires, Argentina. She has won awards for Step Dancing at festivals West Virginia, Tennessee and North Carolina.
In this workshop Phoebe will cover the basic steps of traditional Appalachian step dancing (flat footing) and you will learn how to combine steps for solo free styling. All levels welcome and please bring either hard leather soled shoes (preferably no taps) or shoes without grip.
